The Big Read in Acadiana

In selected seasons, PASA celebrates literature with The Big Read in Acadiana, concentrating on a major work of literature. Most recently, in the 2009-2010 season, the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, was the centerpiece of the project. The Big Read is a national program of the National Endowment For the Arts, in which communities all over the United States come together in support of re-engaging lax and reluctant readers. PASA along with the Lafayette Public Library, Acadiana Arts Council, Iberia Parish Public Library and Cité Des Arts, has created through this initiative programs with dozens of events throughout Acadiana.

PASA's Big Read projects reach into surrounding parishes, libraries, schools, the University of Louisiana Lafayette, book clubs and other venues, to engage the community in reading. For more information about The Big Read program nationwide go to: www.neabigread.com.
