Play It Again, Lafayette

Providing instruments for some students enriches the band experience for all
"We are looking for 100 flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, and other instruments in relatively good condition," says PASA Executive Director Jacqueline Lyle. "Many instruments are sitting unused in closets and on shelves and we thought that the revival of these dormant instruments could make it possible for some worthy students to be in band."
Anyone interested in donating a musical instrument should call the PASA office at 337 237-2787. Donations are tax-deductible and donors will receive written documentation of their gift.
The base component of the program is to solicit used musical instruments from local citizens, which would then be reconditioned for use by students who would otherwise be denied the opportunity to participate in musical education.
In consultation with Dr. James Easton, Superintendent of Lafayette Parish Schools, PASA has identified Lafayette Middle, Acadian Middle and N.P. Moss Middle Schools to take part in the first phase of Play It Again, Lafayette.
Band programs teach self-discipline, self-respect, respect for others, creative problem solving and exact physical, mental and emotional demands of students. What better use of instruments that are not being used than to put them in the hands of someone who wants to join a school band?
